S
o it's been a busy week for me. I spearheaded a most-quirky project at Salon called "Pork Week." Why? (Really? Do you need a reason?) The week began with my story about the pop-culture fetish about bacon and went on to include my brilliant colleague Rebecca Traister's story about making her own bacon and continued with former NY Times food columnist Peter Meehan's story about bacon as a culinary trend and my dear colleague Caitlin Shamberg's beautiful video on an ethical pig farm in upstate in New York. Not everyone has been a fan of Pork Week. In Radar, The ever-observant Choire Sicha, a gifted media critic, pointed out that New York magazine's food blog slagged me earlier in the week for beating the drum on "a tiresome trend" -- meanwhile, they keep beating the drum on the same trend! Ahh, baaaaacon. Look, I still love New York mag's food blog. And I still love bacon. Tomorrow in Salon is an interview with several chefs and food experts about pork. I'll link it eventually. But wanted to let people know about this. ohmigod, baaaacon.
