Surprisingly Big and Incredibly Empty
October 05, 2005
I
must be the one person in New York with too much space. I’m not complaining—my kitchen is big enough to have a dance-off, and don’t think I won’t. But it’s a little overwhelming, having come from Texas with little more than clothes, shoes, CDs, and trinkets from my old office. I’ve got all this stuff and nowhere to put it. Things I don’t currently have include: a couch, a television, a microwave. Things I do currently have include: rope lighting, a copy of Dianetics, a framed picture of Britney Spears stolen from a colleague, and three bottles of barbecue sauce, one of them a promotional gift from the release of the Dallas DVD, with a picture of the original cast on the front. Should anyone in the building have a grilled meat emergency, I am so there. The good news is that it’s a beautiful space, I’m lucky to have it, and lying in bed, I can see the Williamsburg Bridge right outside my window. That’s the only decoration anyone needs. Of course, I did hang Britney over the mantlepiece—you know, for good luck.
