Hey, Where Ya Been?
January 02, 2004
L
ast November, I took a job. I'm the new music editor at a local weekly here. It's meant big changes in my life, not the least is that I spend three nights a week in some dark and smoky cavern, sucking down Vodka tonics and cigarettes and grousing about the noise level. Hello, New Year's Resolutions. But it's also meant that my life has been wallpapered with music since then -- music in the car, in the computer, in the headphones when I walk. It's a luxury, but it also leaves me a little google-eyed, a little unable to compose my own thoughts when I sit down at the computer. Sometimes, I feel as though I'm learning a different language, wrestling with the vocabulary of the industry, the grammar of the local scene. It makes me sleepy. It makes me want to watch bad television, dumb talk shows, Gigli. Hopefully, I'll get the swing of things soon. Until then, I wish you a happy, sappy, nappy New Year. More to come ...
